My South Pacific Cruise (2)

In Vanuatu, we visited Port-Vila, Mystery Island and Champagne Bay. Port-Vila, on the island of Efate, was a hot, crowded city. Local peddlers there sold tours and souvenirs at extra-high prices for tourists. But Champagne Bay, on the island of Espiritu Santo, was quiet and peaceful. There, people were friendly and eager to show off their beautiful island.

Mystery Island was home only to palm trees and deserted landing strip used in World War II.

In New Caledonia, we visited Lifou, Mare, Isle of Pines and Noumea. while in Lifou we hiked through dense jungle to reach a cave and swim in the natural spring inside. In Mare we swam out to rocks off the shore to check out colorful (and sharp) coral. Isle of Pines had the best snorkeling of all the places we visited. As we treaded water, schools of fish swarmed around us playfully. And Noumea felt like a cute seaside town in France. We explored and shopped some but also found time to sit at a cafe and just relax.
