My South Pacific Cruise (1)

Island-hopping through the South Pacific in style

Sunscreen? Check. Swimsuits? Check. Pretty dresses to wear to formal dinners? Check! My friend Katie and I were headed south for some sun and fun. But this wasn't an average beach vacation. Katie and I had booked a 14-day cruise with stops in Vanuatu and New Caledonia, a territory of France. We would be seeing some of the South Pacific's most beautiful island destinations. And We'd be enjoying it all from the comfort of our 14-deck cruise ship.

Our journey started in Sydney, Australia. For the next 14 days we sailed between ports in New Caledonia and Vanuatu with occasional days at sea. We saw busy port cities filled with buildings, cars and people.

We saw tiny tropical islands covered in jungle, where no more than a couple hundred residents lived. Some places were best for hiking or renting a bike. Others had exceptional spots for snorkeling. But every port we visited had at least one thing in common: beautiful white beaches and clear blue water.
