Internship or Part-time Job (1)

Which type of work experience is better?

Hi, Frank! Are you planning to go to the internship fair on campus tomorrow?

No, I don't have time. I have an interview tomorrow for a part-time job.

Why would you want a part-time job?

Internships are much more profitable.

Profitable? If you ask me, internship are a waste of time. Most are unpaid. Why would I want to work for free?

You're not working for free.

You're gaining valuable experience that can help you get a high-paying job in your field in the future.

That might be true to some extent, but I would rather get paid now for that experience. I need to be able to pay my rent and cover my living expenses.

But there are scholarships to cover those sorts of things. Or you could just get a student loan and pay it back later.

That might be an option for some people, but I don't want to be in debt when I graduate.

I can understand that. But the specialized experience from an internship will make finding a job much easier once you're out of school. Having working experience sets you apart from the other job applicants.

In that case, it's a good thing that the part-time position I'm applying for is in my field.
