Five Fun-filled Festivals (2)

* Anchorage Fur Rendezvous, February 27 -- March 8

North America's largest winter festival takes place in Anchorage, Alaska.

In the past, the fur trade was one of the state's most important industries. The festival's 80th anniversary this year will celebrate Alaska's pioneer way of life. People can enjoy nearly 70 different activities.

Exciting events include the World Championship Sled Dog Races and Running of the Reindeer. Tourists come from around the world to attend the 10-day festival.

* Whitefish Winter Carnival, February 6--8

The pretty mountain town of Whitefish, Montana, plays host to visitors each February. Festival-goers enjoy three days of great food, local music, parades and activities in a family-friendly atmosphere. Over 100 artists display high quality work, ranging from paintings to pottery.

Winter games and sports are a special feature as visitors celebrate the season. One favorite activity has people jump into icy Whitefish Lake to raise money for charity.

National Geographic Traveler magazine has called Whitefish's celebration one of the world's top ten winter carnivals.
