The Love of Perfume (2)

Beginning in the 14th century, perfume was used mainly by French royalty and other wealthy people. No one took baths regularly, so fragrance was used to cover up body odor. King Louis XV enjoyed perfume a lot. He ordered a different fragrance daily for his apartment. Perfume became very popular in the 17th century as people across the country began using it. As demand grew, the Western perfume industry got its start.

The sweet smell of success
People today still love perfume. And famous people are using that appreciation for their personal gain. Fans are eager to buy a fragrance named after their favorite star. In fact of the top 100 best-selling perfumes, about one-third is linked to famous people. But it's not limited to stars. Schools and sports teams are also starting to sell fragrances named after them. They know that as long as people use perfume, there will be a steady market.

With such a lasting passion for fragrance, perfume is here to stay.
